Regulations on Academic Papers for Degree Application

1. Research achievement for PhD degree

a. at least 1 published academic paper at the best academic journal in Xiamen University or 1st Class core academic journal; or 3 academic papers published on 2nd Class core academic journal since the enrollment. Dissertation related monograph (not less than 30,000 words on your part), textbook (not less than 50,000 words) or translation work of academic books (not less than 50,000 words) could be equivalent with 1 paper published in the 2nd Class core academic journal. Supplement, special or album are not included in the academic journals mentioned above.

Foreign PhD candidates or that of Taiwan, Hong Kong or Macau are required to publish at least 2 legal papers or translation work on the academic journals of China or other countries which are publicly issued with official serial number.

b. published academic papers mentioned above for PhD degree application should be no less than 3000 words and related to the dissertation of the PhD candidates. “Xiamen University” should be the first authored organization. The PhD candidate should be the corresponding or first author (it is also acceptable if his/her supervisor is the first author, and the candidate is the second author). If the paper is published on SCI, SSCI, EI, acceptance letter is enough, otherwise the candidate should submit the officially published journal while application of PhD degree. Academic paper published on EI should be periodical research paper.

c. the application of PhD degree should be finished in six years since the defense, otherwise it will be regarded as giving up.

2. Research achievement for master degree

Research achievement is not required for master degree candidates (including foreign students or that of Taiwan, Hong Kong or Macau).

The application of master degree should be finished in four years since the defense, otherwise it will be regarded as giving up.

3. Others

a. the requirements of Law School Degree Assessment Commission should also be met while application of degree.

b. the class of journal is subject to the Law School Degree Assessment Commission.
