Tenet & Partners is a top commercial law firm located in the south-east of China. Founded in 1993, it remained at the top in Fujian Province and have grown to be the best-recognized law firm of the largest scale in China. Having more than 300 employees and 200 trainee lawyers it is ranked at top 30 largest law firm in China by ALB.

The international student union, Xiamen University School of law in conjunction with the visiting students from Malta University Confucius institute visited Tenet & Partners law firm on 21st of March 2019. The glowing idea behind this visit was to demonstrate to international students how law firms in China operate. The group was comprised of students from Malta, Italy, Pakistan, Germany, Mainland China and Indonesia.

Initially, we had a detailed visit to the law firm. It possessed 7 meeting rooms, partners’ offices and cubicles for associates. We ended up at a big meeting room, where we were served with lavish tea and fruits.

We had a great discussion with managing partner, marketing head and other members of the firm. There was a presentation on PRC law and lawyering system in China. Managing Partner welcomed us with amazing words. He said, “Today is a sunny day and for Chinese sunny day means something good is going to happen and here you are” It was the best welcome note I have ever heard. Then he illustrated the details of the law firm. He told us Partners are the shareholders of the law firm, the law firm has a marketing department and administrative department.

The most interesting part of the visit was the Q & A session. Students raised important questions related to foreign investment law, judicial interpretation and impact on emerging cases, how to stand out among the pool of law firms in China and whether law firms deal with Pro Bono cases or not etc. Members of the law firm satisfied each question as it deserved.

We reached back to Xiamen University at 5 pm. It was a great experience, International students got enough knowledge about the lawyering system in China. International student Union is looking for having more learning opportunities to ensure the professional learning of students.
